State Film Permits

Online Permit Application
Apply for your permit to shoot on state-owned property and track your permit status.

* Caltrans / CHP permits require 72 hours advance notice.
(For closures a meeting is required 10 days prior to filming.)
* All other permits require 48 hours advance notice.

Insurance Requirements for Filming
Production companies must submit current insurance to the California Film Commission (CFC). All certificates must name the State of California as an additional insured. To better serve the film industry, the CFC has three insurance fact sheets: general, still and student.
